Beer sales double in WB, 2 more plants coming up

The state of revenue has increased due to the sale of liquor in the state.

According to the sources in the Excise Department, the state has earned a record profit of Rs 16,500 crore from the sale of liquor in the financial year 2022-23. This revenue figure is 30% higher than the previous financial year. The sale of beer has doubled in comparison to the previous financial year, while the sale of alcohol made in foreign countries has increased by 10%. The sale of country liquor has also increased by 10% compared to the previous year.

The state excise officials are concerned about the increase in beer sales as they fear that the production capacity of beer in the state may not be sufficient to cater to the demand. In light of the situation, the production capacity of beer is being increased in the state to meet the expected demand in the future. Two new beer plants are coming up in the state to increase production capacity.

Although liquor prices were hiked in some cases at the end of the last financial year, this did not deter people from purchasing alcohol. The Excise Department showed huge profits to the state, which is expected to increase in the current financial year.

Despite the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the state earned more than Rs 12,000 crore from the sale of liquor in the financial year 2021-22. However, the revenue earned in the 2022-23 financial year broke all previous records.
